SUPPORTING DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF FABRY DISEASE
Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder affecting both males and
females, with symptoms first occurring in childhood. Multisystemic and relentlessly
progressive, the condition can lead to premature death if left untreated. But while
symptoms often start early in a child’s life, they often go unrecognised until adulthood,
when organ damage has already occurred.
I wrote an interactive educational resource for physicians, providing an overview of
the symptoms, diagnosis and medical management of Fabry disease. This included
the ability to focus in on how Fabry disease affects organs of specialist interest to
individual physicians, helping them to relate the content to their day-to-day practice. I
complemented this with a range of other materials for physicians, patients and families,
promoting disease awareness and genetic testing for Fabry disease.
